Cross country notes: Maize’s Deidra Walker overcomes leg surgeryPublished by
It was nothing new when Maize's Deidra Walker crossed the finish line first last Saturday at the Bishop Carroll Invitational. Walker, a senior, has carved out a successful distance running career at Maize. What made this race monumental to her was what she had overcome. Not even nine months ago, Walker suffered a fractured fibula that put her running career in peril. When told that she may never be able to run the same again, Walker worked even harder this summer in her rehabilitation to make sure that she did. And the first result of her work was that race, as Walker posted a time of 15 minutes, 4 seconds that was just seven seconds off where she began last season.
