Cross country: Rim Rock offers state’s girls a rare 5K racePublished by
At Saturday’s Rim Rock Invitational in Lawrence, the prestigious meet will unveil a new “platinum” race offering an opportunity for girls cross country runners to compete in a 5-kilometer race. Kansas is one of eight states in the country that has not converted to a 5K as their girls standard. Kansas runs a 4K, which it switched to in 2006 from 2-mile races. Maintaining that status quo has been something the majority of the state’s coaches have been content to do, but a growing number are pushing for Kansas to follow Rim Rock’s lead.
