The second time Bishop Carroll senior Nick Meyer attempted 16 feet, 10 inches in the Class 5A pole vault on Friday, he made it over but brushed the bar with his thighs on the way down to the mat.

When he relived the jump later, he groaned and leaned over, putting his hands on his knees.

He stood back up straight and smiled.
