Every move Bishop Carroll senior Nick Meyer makes on the pole vault runway is calculated. He knows how each part of his body should be moving and where it should be at every crucial moment. He has practiced the movements in meticulous fashion countless times over the past six years

He holds the pole just so, lifting it up and then taking two big, powerful steps toward the vault. He gains speed as he lowers his pole, plants the pole in the box, and just as the pole stops bending, he swings his legs and stays as straight as he possibly can. Upside down at this point, he pulls with both his arms, kicks, turning his body over so he’s going over the pole on his stomach.

When executed in such fine fashion, it’s a beautiful sight.
