Track Hosts Wildcat Open

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. The Baker University track and field team hosted its annual 2014 Wildcat Open on Saturday inside Liston Stadium.

Baker competed against nine other teams including McPherson, Central Missouri, Missouri Valley, University of St. Mary, Ottawa, William Jewell, Benedictine and Johnson County Community College.

The women's team took home first place with 202 team points, 122 points ahead of second-place McPherson and the Wildcat men's team also placed first with 121.50 team points with McPherson taking second with 83 points.

Billi Pipes had a big day for the Wildcats with her first-place finish in the women's 200, 400 and 4x100 meter relay and Stephanie Nelson won the javelin and took fifth-place in the discus and shot put.

On the men's side, Dayshawn Berndt won the 400 meter dash and 4x100 meter relay and Greg Henning had a lifetime best in the long jump, winning it with a mark of 7.07m. Avery Parker also won the men's triple jump with a 14.42m jump.

Ben Carpenter won the men's pole vault with a vault of 4.50m and Gunnar Hays won the men's 3,000 meter run in a time of 9:09.22 and Katie Thurbon won the women's pole vault at 3.40 m.

Natash Jones was impressive in the women's high jump with her first-place finish of 1.60m and Tyler Sloan won both the women's 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles. Ariella Harrison also took home first-place in the women's 800-meter run in a time of 2:23.45 and Kiana Turner took home first in the 100 meter dash.
