Baker Competes in Final Day of National Championships

Ben Carpenter took home ninth on Saturday in the men's pole vault, one spot out of the All-America rankings

GULF SHORES, Ala. Baker University junior 100m hurdler Tyler Sloan and the women's 4x100 meter relay team of Billi Pipes, Kiana Turner, Lauren Allen-Brown and Diamond Griffith all earned All-America honors on Saturday afternoon in the final day of the 2014 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships.

 

Sloan finished fourth in the finals of the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 13.98 just under her lifetime best of 13.97.

The women's 4x100m relay team took home sixth-place in the final heat in a time of 47.27.

To begin the day of competition, senior Megan Rosa arose early and competed in the women's marathon race through Orange Beach, Ala., which began at 6 a.m.

Rosa took home 21st place in a time of 3:29.38 and competed with a field of 44 runners.

Also on Saturday, freshmen Matt Bush and Ben Carpenter competed in the finals of the men's pole vault. Carpenter finished just one spot out of the All-America standings, as he finished ninth with his best vault of 4.57m and Bush wasn't able to land a jump, but was one of 16 pole vaulters to compete at nationals.

Sophomore Avery Parker also competed on Saturday in the men's triple jump. The Olathe, Kan., native competed in the second heat and posted a best jump of 13.91m, but wasn't able to advance to the finals.

Also competing in the field in the women's high jump finals was Paige Rockers. The junior failed to land a jump in her three attempts, but was one of 26 jumpers to compete.

Stephanie Nelson ended her illustrious track career at Baker on Saturday, in the women's discus finals. The Kansas City, Kan., competed in the second flight and finished fourth in that flight with a throw of 41.58m. But wasn't able to qualify for the final heat.
