Wildcats Take Sixth at UCM Mule Run

WARRENSBURG, Mo. With a school record performance by senior Lauren Jaqua, the Baker University women's cross country team took home second place on Saturday, at the Central Missouri University Mule Run.

Jaqua broke the school record 4K time with her 14:49 time, good for a third-place finish and as a team Baker finished second out of 12 teams and finished just behind first-place Columbia College (Mo.).

The men's squad took home sixth-place out of 10 teams and defending HAAC Runner of the Week Vincent Tadokoro ran the fastest time for Baker with his time of 21:53 and 19th-place finish.

On the women's side, Kerry Kurta, Megan Rosa, Ashley McBride and Jillian Benson all finished in the Top 20 for Baker.

Kurta ran the 4K in a time of 15:21 and took 13th, while Rosa took 14th in a time of, McBride finished 16th with her time of 15:32 and Benson was 17th in a time of 15:36.

"Saturday was a great test for our teams to see where we're currently at," Baker head coach Zach Kindler said. "After the fist couple of meets, I think we are really starting to see some improvements but this is not the time to settle for us. We will have some pretty big goals set for our teams this year but I am excited where we are at this time."

For the Baker men's team, freshman Corey Matteson finished in the Top 30 with his 26th-place finish time of 22:02 and Jamie Sturery took 45th to finish in the Top 50.

Baker will next compete in the Southern Stampede at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Mo., next Saturday, Sept. 21.
