HUTCHINSON – Kimiko Bullis’ lips are gently curved upward as she stands with her McPherson cross country teammates on a blustery, hot afternoon. Her smile, which appears permanent even when she’s exhausted, invites a return smile.

The glow radiating from her infects her coaches, teammates and Blaine Martin, who is Bullis’ guide runner because she is visually impaired.

“She brings delight to everybody who meets her,” McPherson coach Gentry Nixon said. “She smiles at them, and once she gets to know you in her comfort level, she’s affectionate and she’s supportive.”
