Andale senior Lane Macari has a well-established approach to the high jump. He puts the time in during the days leading up to competitions, and he has honed his pre-jump routine over time.

Friday morning at Cessna Stadium in the elite division of the Pre-State Challenge, Macari was all alone, listening to music as he readied himself for a final jump. He already had won the event at 6-5 1/2, but he wanted a personal record.

While Macari didn’t get it at 6-9, his plan is to jump 6-11 at the KU Relays, which would qualify him for nationals in Oregon.
