Quick 1600-meter races highlight rain-shortened meet

When it comes to the 1600-meter race, challengers of Riley Osen always say they’re going to stay on the hip of the Winfield junior and wait to make their move on the final lap.

Rarely are they able to execute such a strategy, although Maize senior Cole Bosley came close Friday afternoon in a shortened Goddard Invitational. The meet was stopped by lightning after the race and will not be made up due to scheduling conflicts with the teams involved.

Bosley accomplished his goal of making it a race until the final lap, but Osen’s kick was superior and he pulled away for a personal-best time of 4 minutes, 20.97 seconds. Bosley was right behind in 4:22.75 with Bishop Carroll’s Paul Becker in third at 4:23.57.
