The moment Ismael Ramirez had been dreaming of for the last four years happened Friday night and becoming a City League champion still overwhelmed the him. An afterthought in his first three seasons as a distance runner on South’s track and field team, Ramirez’s persistence and dedication to running has paid off in his senior season. On Friday, Ramirez ran the fastest 800-meter race of his life, winning the City League title in 2 minutes, 0.68 seconds at Northwest.
