WICHITA, Kan. - For a track and field athlete at the NAIA Level, 9th place is the most heartbreaking position to be in. At the National Track Meet, the top eight athletes are given the status of All-American - they receive a plaque, they make the awards stand, and they receive points for their team in the team title race. Chelsea Baker (FR/Pittsburg, KS) experienced that feeling at this year's NAIA Indoor National Meet in the High Jump. At 5'6" Baker missed all three of her attempts and was currently in 5th place and just needed one of the final four athletes after her to miss on their 3rd attempt and she would be an All-American. Against all odds, all four athletes made their final attempt and Baker would go from 5th to 9th in a matter of minutes. A tremendous finish for a freshman, but a heartbreaking moment for the athlete and coaches who had high hopes of her making the awards stand in her first National Meet.
