Wildcats bring home two All-Americans at NAIA Indoor National Championships

GENEVA, Ohio – Sophomores Stephanie Nelson (Kansas City, Kan.) and Katie Thurbon (Topeka, Kan.) were the lone Baker representatives at the 2012 NAIA Indoor National Championships to take home All-American status.

Nelson finished in seventh place overall in the women’s shot put with a mark of 13.56 meters. Thurbon grabbed an eighth place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 3.45 meters.

Freshman Tyler Sloan also highlighted things for the Baker women, breaking a school record in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.68. Sloan also competed in the 60 meter hurdles and took home a ninth place finish with a time of 8.92.

Travis Miller highlighted things on the men side with a 13th place finish in the men’s high jump with a mark of 1.98 meters. Coming into the event Miller was ranked No. 16 nationally.

Jeremy Gathright took home a tenth place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 14.08 meters. He also closed out with a 15th place finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.51 meters.

Baker will now prepare to defend their men’s and women’s indoor conference titles in the outdoor season, set to begin Mar. 15 at the Emporia State Open.
